I'm ignoring the random people downstairs that I sometimes call my family right now, so I might as well tell you all about Hawai'i now.
Tuesday: Got up early-ish (7am) and did final packing (forgot about five or six tee-shirts on my dresser). When we got to the airport, we all checked our bags and went through security. I got the family McDonolds (Diet Coke for mom, as usual), and then we waited for the next hour until our flight took off. Let me tell you all now, I generally HATE flying. I never can sleep and the seats never fit me right. So the flight was all right, for being nine hours, and we landed around three in the afternoon (seven body time) to 80* weather. After grabbing dinner and watching the sunset, we all passed out.
Wednesday: After an early morning and grabbing an expensive, mediocre breakfast at the hotel, we went to the Pearl Harbor memorial, which was very sad and very moving, but still alright. We ended up spending the entire morning there, and then went back to the hotel to chill on the beach for a while at my insistance. After about an hour, my parents and brother had had enough and dragged me to see some of the natural spots on the island, which were rather cool, and I took lots of pictures.
Thursday: Our last day on Oahu, we went to the Royal Museum from back when the Islands were a kingdom... it was rather fun, and there was this huge Banyon tree out front that was fantastic. If any of you were aware, there's this great banyon tree in Waikiki where we stayed where Robert Louis Stevenson wrote under, and I got to write under it too! In the afternoon we went to this waterfall that my brother had heard about before we went to this surfing beach on north end. However, the hike was longer than my brother heard, we never managed to get to the beach, and I ended up with about twenty mosquito bites
Friday: Got up early, flew to the big Island, and spent the afternoon at the beach. I don't think we would have stayed nearly as long if they weren't renting snorkling gear and we got to go out and see coral and tons of colorful fish... That was incredible. I even saw a sea turtle, was about two inches from one as I passed over it! There were a great diversity of fish in the cove and I really enjoyed looking at everything for a good hour before I got tired.
Saturday: Went to the Volcano in the area, spent far too long there (it was 2 hours away), then went back. It wasn't a great day...
Sunday: Suntanned all morning, reading LwD, then left for a 6pm flight... we landed at 6am Chicago time and I came home and crashed, I hadn't slept at all on the plan...
That's it, now I should go clean up and get breakfast
